About Shanghai University
In partnership with the U.S-China Higher Education Alliance, WEgroup's Shanghai Semester and Shanghai Summer programs are conducted under the direction of Shanghai University's College of International Exchange.
Shanghai University was founded in its present incarnation in 1994, as a merger of four institutions. The oldest of these, the original Shanghai University, was founded in 1922 as a cooperative project of the Communist Party and the Kuomintang.
Shanghai University is one of the 106 key universities in "Project 211," China's plan to cultivate the individual talents of its citizens in order to help ensure broad social and economic success. The university is located in the northwestern part of Shanghai, China's economic, financial, trade and transportation center. Its students enjoy beautiful campuses, well-equipped facilities, and most importantly, a first-rate faculty, providing a high-quality learning and living environment.
Since 1976, CIE has coordinated the study of more than 10,000 international students from 74 countries; it currently enrolls over 1,000. Its Chinese as a Foreign Language Teaching and Research Center offers highly qualified faculty with a rich diversity of teaching experience.
SU currently has 27 full-time and part-time Chinese instructors capable of working with students at all skill levels. International students are welcomed to SU not just for short study-abroad experiences, but for degrees in Chinese language and dozens of other programs.
This long history of international communication and cooperation is one of SU's particular strengths. The university continues to develop its relationships and academic exchange programs with foreign universities, research institutes and private enterprise. SU boasts cooperative relationships with several universities abroad and welcomes world-class scholars as honorary and part-time faculty.
